Losing weight is no easy task, I think all would agree. I remember thinking that no matter what I did, weight loss was not going to happen for me. However, I am here to assure you that IT WILL. The secret? Time, dedication, and asking tons of questions. For me, weight loss was a huge challenge. I began with running on the treadmill at least 3 times a week, just a mile each day. As the days became nicer, I took my exercises outdoors and began running the bike path. Not only was it a change of scenery, but a great friendly environment filled with others who have similar goals.
After a while I began to pick up the mileage from one to two, the from two to three each day I ran. During the summer of 2014, I challenged myself and I woke up at 6AM every morning and ran from my house, to the bike trail, ran the trail, then ran back home: a total of 8 miles. I was never a fan of running before, but when you begin to see yourself doing things you never could before, the motivation and strive is just so present you find joy in it. It took me about 8/9 months to lose 40 lbs. However, do not let time length discourage you! As with almost anything, the road to weight loss is not a straight, linear line. There are multiple ups and downs that lead towards the upward direction. Also, it’s easier to learn how to maintain the weight loss when the weight loss is spread out.
It is important to add that the 40 pounds that I lost was done without a gym membership. For those of you who think you must get a membership to lose weight, you don’t necessarily have to! I stuck with my cardio indoor and outdoor and still lost weight. IT IS POSSIBLE. I’m living proof! Always ask questions when you want to know more information. Do some research and look up some other ways to do exercises. Bring a friend or family member along for your runs and run to music that keeps you going. Surround yourself with positive energy and things that keep you motivated. You all have the spark in you, so don’t doubt it for a second! Never did I think I would running, but come August 2015, I’m set to run a half marathon which I’m extremely pumped about.
